Família muito antiga e nobre originária da Sicília. Ao longo dos séculos, vários ramos desta família se mudaram para várias regiões da Itália, de onde adquiriram sua nobreza e foram acolhidos lá nos importantes escritórios da cidade onde moravam. Nas lembranças de tempos passados, lemos algumas variações desse sobrenome, devido às causas habituais da pronúncia dialetal e à maneira de interpretar sobrenomes nas escrituras. Um Henry era vice-segredo de Salemi 1398; um Antonello, um Enrico (o mesmo que o anterior), um Nicolò foram respectivamente jurados, juiz e tesoureiro da cidade de 1403; Andrea era capitão de Mazzara em 1403; Riccardo prestou juramento em Salemi em 1405-6; um Giacomo, cavaleiro real, foi capitão da justiça da cidade em 1419-20; outro Riccardo ocupou a mesma posição em 1467-68; um Vincenzo jurou em Salemi em 1532-33; um James ocupou a mesma posição em 1580-81; outro Giacomo, barão de Sinagia, foi capitão da justiça
