E' questa una delle potentissime famiglie che dominarono il Comitato vicentino come Vicecomites del Vescovo. Possedette i castelli di Vivaro e di Valvegna da antichissimo tempo. Si ha memoria del nome e della cospiua posizione della famiglia dal XI secolo e già si sa che nella ripartizione del Comitato alprincipio del secolo X i Porto erano fra i vassalli più influenti e considerati del Vescovo. Già sotto l'impereratore Enrico V, per i molti servigi resi all'Impero, avevano avuto il privilegio di portare l'aquila imperiale, e Carlo V, confermando il precedente favore imperiale, concesse a questa Casa il titolo di conte palatino e cavaliere aurato, innalzando altresì a contea, con diploma 14 dicembre 1532, la giurisdizione di Vivaro e Valvegna che, come fu detto, tenevano in qualità di Vicecomites. Tali titoli furono confermati dal Senato Veneto il 26 settembre 1729 ed il 27 marzo 1730. La famiglia è da considerarsi altrsì
