Antica ed assai nobile famiglia del Regno delle Due Sicilie, conosciuta come Larocca o Rocca, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Questa nobile famiglia ha posseduto il principato di Alcontres, la ducea di San Lorenzo, il marchesato di Roccalumera, le baronie Caule de Lorba o di Lerba, Caule di Legna, Piani di lu Puti, Colla soprana e sottana, Finocchiara, Fondaco del Re o di Bitonto, San Giuseppe, Lalia, Lando, Maeggio, Militello, Placabajana, Raccuia, Racarciofali, Scarpello, Serradi-falco e i diritti della corte capitaniale di Piazza. Al dir del Mugnos, la casata è originaria della Spagna da donde fu portata in Sicilia, nel 1391, grazie ad un distinto cavaliere aragonese, Giacomo Larocca, il cui figlio Antonio si stabilì in Messina per servire il re Alfonso, dando origine al ramo dei Larocca in questa città. Dobbiamo però evidenziare come già nel 1294 un Guglielmo Larocca
