Antica e nobile famiglia italiana, originaria della Sicilia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in tutto il mondo. Secondo quanto si tramanda, questa famiglia ebbe la sua culla nell'agrigentino. Il primo Lauricella di cui si ha notizia è un "magnificus" Mazziotta Lauricella, giurato di Naro (Nagrigento), fiorente nel XVI secolo. A lui si deve anche la costruzione della chiesa e dell'ospedale di San Rocco. Un altro importante ramo di questa famiglia fiorì a Ravanusa. Molti membri di questa famiglia si dedicarono alla professione notarile; da uno di questi nacque Ferdinando Lauricella (1822-1900), storico, medico, letterato e sindaco di Ravanusa. Allo stesso ceppo appartenevano: Giuseppe Lauricella (1873-1954), giurista, fervente socialista e fautore della "Convenzione tra padroni e contadini di Ravanusa"; Salvatore Lauricella (1922-1996), figlio del suddetto, che fu anche Presidente della Regione Sicilia per due legislature; Calogero Lauricella, vescovo di Cela, Agrigento, Cefalù e arcivescovo di Siracusa.
