Questa antica famiglia è un ramo della illustre casa Sanseverino, originato da Roberto Lauro signor di Lauro , dal quale presero nome i suoi discendenti. Ebbe nobiltà in Tropea, Catanzaro, Amantea nel seggio di S. Basilio in Castellamare e in Seminara; e fu signora di diciotto feudi. Giovanni Lauro fu gran protonotario del regno, nel 1220; Antonio Vescovo di Stabia e cappellano maggiore nel 1534; Scipione famigliare e domestico di Carlo V, conte palatino e nobile del S.R.I.; Mario Vescovo di Campania e Satriano; Vincenzo Cardinale di S.R.C. nel 1583; Antonio Vescovo di Belcastro. Di questa famiglia non si hanno più notizie. Altro ramo. Famiglia catalana che nel 1327 ebbe il feudo di Quarto e Baralla con un Guglielmo consigliere reale. Egli per demeriti personali nel 1331 fu privato del feudo che fu incamerato dal fisco.
