Esta família antiga é um ramo da ilustre casa Sanseverino, originada por Roberto Lauro Signor di Lauro, da qual seus descendentes receberam o nome. Ele tinha nobreza em Tropea, Catanzaro, Amantea na sede de S. Basilio em Castellamare e em Seminara; e era a dama de dezoito feudos. Giovanni Lauro foi um grande protonotário do reino em 1220; Antonio Bispo de Stabia e capelão major em 1534; Scipione familiar e doméstico de Carlos V, conde palatino e nobre da SRI; Mario Bispo da Campânia e Satriano; Vincenzo Cardinale da SRC em 1583; Antonio Bispo de Belcastro. Não há notícias desta família. Outro ramo. Família catalã que em 1327 teve o feudo de Quarto e Baralla com um conselheiro real William. Ele por deméritos pessoais em 1331 foi privado do feudo que foi perdido pelo contribuinte.
