Antica famiglia valtellinese alla quale appartenne Romerio, ambasciatore della fazione Vittana per trattare in Milano la pace coi Rusconi. Da Tommaso, fratello di lui hanno origine i due rami di Mazzo e di Sondrio. Il primo di questi ha per capostipite Egidio, da cui discende Michele, padre del canonico Pietro Angelo, storico della Valtellina, autore pure d'una storia della famiglia edita a Trenta nel 1739, di Antonio, padre del giureconsulto Egidio, cancelliere di Valle e di Giuseppe Maria, avo di Giulio. Questi, sposo a Elisabetta Venosta, coi cugini Pier Angelo (n. 1775) e Costantino (n. 1780) fu riconosciuto nell'antica nobiltà con sovrana risoluzione 30 marzo 1819. Da lui discendono gli attuali rappresentanti di questo ramo. Altro ramo. E' il ramo de' Lavizzari di Sondrio, di cui da Luigi, fratello di Egidio, padre di Giovanni Gaudenzio, capitano delle milizie di Sondrio nel 1767, quindi luogotenente generale del Governatore.
