Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Guillaume dit Canis, mentionné dans des chartes de l'abbaye de Beauport en 1203, père de Guillaume II, sénéchal de Goëllo, tuteur d'Henry d'Avaugour et époux de Tiphaine il fit son testament en 1225 et laissa: Guillaume III, croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois), marié à Plezou, dame de la Roche-Suhart, vicomtesse de Plourhan, dont: Guillaume IV, l'un des exécuseurs du testament du duc Jean II, conseiller d'Artur II et son ambassadeur vers le Pape à Avignon en 1309, auteur (suivant l'Armorial breton de Guy Le Borgne, publié en 1667), de deux familles Le Borgne.
