Ascheri, nell'opera da lui intrapresa e eseguita "Notizie storiche intorno delle famiglie in Alberghi in Genova", stampato in Genova dal Faziola nel 1846, dice sia una famiglia di origine italiana, passata in Genova, tra il XV e XVII secolo. Opizzino Leccavella fu console dei placiti nel 1148 e 1183; Ansaldo ebbe la stessa carica nel 1205 e 1215; Simone fu anziano nel 1265-66; ed altri della sua casa dopo di lui; Giacomo, patrone di una grossa nave, partecipò alla vittoria dei Genovesi contro il Re d'Aragona nel 1420.
