Apellido de origen castellano. Procede de la villa de Ledesma, en la provincia de Salamanca, de cuyo lugar tomó el nombre. Se extendió por toda la Península. Caballeros de este linaje probaron su nobleza en las Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlos III y San Juan de Jerusalén, así como en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid. Don Gregorio Ledesma. Navajas, nacido en Fuenmayor, (Logroño) y vecino de Arecibo (Puerto Rico), fue creado Marqués de Arecibo en 12 de julio de 1889. Entre los primeros pobladores de la Villa de Güimar, estuvo Bartolomé de Ledesma. y su mujer Isabel García, que fueron padres del capitán Don Cristóbal de Ledesma.
