Les armes de cette maison sont décrites dans le "Grand Armorial de France" (registre de Périgueux), sous le nom de François Faucher, écuyer, seigneur de la Jourdonie de Fontagnac, incontestablement de la même famille que les Faucher de Versac, etc; d'Hozier, ou ses commis les donnent ainsi (même Armorial, même registre): d'azur à une croix potencée d'argent et un chef de gueules chargé d'une faux d'or. Cette famille originaire du Limousin, où elle occupait, dès le XIIème siècle, un rang élevé dans la noblesse, a formé plusieurs branches aux rameaux qui se sont répandus en Guienne, Périgord et Saintonge. En Pèrigord, elle possédait le château de la Ligerie, paroisse de Fontaine, entièrement détrut à l'époque de la Révolution. Deux de ses représentants figurent à Périgueux parmi les votants pour les députés da la noblesse aux États -Généraux de 1789, et plusieurs autres sujets en saintonge et à Angoulême.
