Antica ed assai nobile famiglia napoletana, detta Legni o Lagni e, più anticamente, Ligny, la quale vuolsi di origine francese e giunta nel Regno ai tempi di Carlo I d'Angiò, nel 1269. Nel 1278, Simone era Procuratore delle miniere della Corte e, nel 1275, Valletto del re. La famiglia ha posseduto Sicignano sin dall'anno 1297, Romagano e altri Castelli in Basilicata. Nel 1305, possedette S. Nicandro, Campochiaro, S. Gregorio, S. Pietro, S. Martino, S. Andrea, Casale nuovo e Vignale, in Principato Citra. Nel 1335, Gio. Marino e Miluccio venderono il Casale di Vignola, in Principato Ultra. Una donna di tal casato fu marchesa del Vasto e moglie del Duca di Bari, Antonio Caldora.
