Très illustre maison de la Bretagne, d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Guillaume, vivant en 1413, épouse Isabeau du Quistinic; un page du Roi en 1715; un chevalier de Saint-Lazare en 1724; un capitaine de vaisseau en 1772 connu par ses voyages de découvertes, nommé contre-amiral en 1793, mort en 1797; deux pages de Madame et de la comtesse d'Artois en 1782. On trouve Hervé, croisé en 1248 (Chartes latines de 1191 à 1249 relatives aux croisés, provenant du cabinet Courtois); mais nous ne savons à quelle famille Kerguélen il appartenait. Autre branche: Hervé, vivant en 1443, épouse Jeanne de Keranraiz. La branche de Kergaradec fondue en 1621 dans le Jumeau; la branche de Penhoat fondue en 1752 dans le Borgne de la Tour; la branche de Kerestat fondue dans Kergoët.
