Se famiglia d'antica nobiltà si celebra per la Sicilia, la famiglia L., hoggi di Sanbasilio, per il feudo c'hà posseduto, stimo, portarsi fra le prime il vanto; perche non solamente ella è antichissima d'anni ottocento in circa, quando se ne dasse origine dal primo Lanfranco, che fiorì negl'anni 813 del Signore; ma ha goduto i primi matrimonij nobili, e' primi carichi del Regno. Questo Lanfranco Cavaliero Leontino, d'onde prese il cognome la sua posterità, essendo stata la Sicilia oppressa da' Barbari nel predett'anno, valorosamente difese con l'arme, e col valore la città di Leontini sua patria due anni; ma essendo stata finalmente da quei al miserabile giogo condotta, egli con Rinaldo, e Gerardo suoi figli si ricoverò in Messina, ch'ancora dall'oppressione Barbara si difendeva, e quindi si morì, combattendo in serviggio della Christiana religione; per la qual cagione i due fratelli Rinaldo, e Gerardo di L. si casarono in quella
