Família muito antiga e ilustre, cujas variações cognominais são encontradas: d'Alessi, Nalesso, Alesso, Nalessi, Lessi etc. provavelmente devido aos muitos ramos propagados em diferentes regiões do mundo e aos erros usuais de transcrição. Eles são originários de Carrù, no Piemonte. Depois de se mudar para Turim, a família se ilustrou com o banqueiro Giambattista, que foi investido no município de Canosio (2 de agosto de 1747), fundando o direito de primogenitura em 29 de dezembro de 1749. Personagens notáveis da família são: Gian-Giacomo, filho de Girolamo, de Giambattista, que investiu com Moiola (3 de abril de 1777), deu origem a outra linha comercial, agora extinta; e Paolo, da linha comercial de Canosio, que posteriormente foi cânone (1796) e arcebispo da catedral de Turim (1823), e viveu no período francês na corte de Card. Costa d'Arignano e em 1799, na época das vitórias efêmeras de Souwarof, haviam sido deportados pelos austro-russos
