The origin of this family is most certain, but it is extremely confused because of a large number of members which it is not possible to link between them by a common and regular filiation. To this same name, a distinctive sign of nobility is attributed, represented by the coat of arms which is reproduced below and which also confirms through its emblems, from a historical and heraldic point of view, the assurance of a historical value of heritage, nobility and value. We will transcribe the most outstanding characters such as we met them in the bibliographical sources consulted: Alain, witness at the founding of the Abbey of Beaulieu in 1170; Hamon, made a foundation in Lehon in 1253; Guillaume, squire in a du Guesclin watch in 1370; Alain, living in 1380, father of Jean, married to Jeanne Botherel; Macé, masters of accounts in 1400; Julien, adviser to the parliament in 1570; an abbot of Montmorel in the diocese of Avranches from 1575 to 1595. The Cotardière branch melted into Blondeau, from which the land of Cotardière passed by alliance in 1630 to the Thierry, then to the Servaude, and by acquisition in 1767 to the du Bois du Haut-Breil.
