La famiglia è oriunda di Visso presso Camerino, dove possedeva terreni e greggi numerosissimi, tantochè dopo la metà del sec. XVII era tassata di una fornitura verso l'annona di Roma di 400 agnelli ogni anno. Nel 1500 si ha notizia di un Marco nei libri delle Guaite di Macerata: un Cesare fu magistrato in Visso nel 1557: Nicolò nel 1634 apparteneva al Consiglio della cittadinanza romana. Un ramo di questa famiglia, circa nel 1666, si trasferì da Visso a Viterbo con Liberato di Angelo, tenente, ed un suo figlio Francesco-Antonio è nominato tra i patrizi di Viterbo nel 1721. Un discendente di lui, conte Nicola di Giacomo, era Guardia Nobile pontificia nel 1867. Monsignor Francesco fu arcivescovo di Efeso e Datario di Papa Innocenzo XI, ed ebbe molte altre cariche ecclesiastiche: Canonico di S. Giovanni in Laterano, poi di S.
