Venne da Figline in Firenze nel secolo XIV. Il suo nome sarebbe derivato, a detta di una antico genealogico, da un Ser Francesco di Feo, vissuto in questa città verso il 1320 e già chiamato Librenti e poi per essere egli maestro di ars notariae, cioè dettatore di formule per i libri notarili. Il figlio di lui Ser Maffeo fu abilitato nel 1363 ai maggiori onori, e già nel 1357 era stato eletto ad ufficiale dello studio Fiorentino. Molti di loro ottennero importanti incarichi dalla Repubblica, e Leonardo d'Andrea, il priorato, nel 1531. Durante l'assedio di Firenze si segnalarono nella difesa della libertà. Nel tempo del Principato ebbero nome Giulio di mr. Paolo, giureconsulto e filosofo e Lorenzo di Leonardo, pur esso professore di diritto e accademico della Crusca e degli Apatisti. Altri conseguirono l'abito di Malta e di S. Stefano. Motto della famiglia: Sic vigent. Altro ramo. Antica
