Antica famiglia toscana, con residenza in Prato, alla cui nobiltà fu ammessa, in persona di un Giuseppe, nel 1764. La famiglia levò per arme. D'oro, al monte di sei cime di verde, e alla banda attraversante d'azzurro, caricata di un ramo di (...), fiorito di cinque pezzi d'argento. Alias. D'oro, al monte di sei cime di verde, e alla banda attraversante d'azzurro, caricata di cinque rose d'argento. Altro ramo. Antichissima famiglia patrizia di Viterbo, detta Gatti o De Gattis, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Figura di primo piano della famiglia fu, senza alcun dubbio in proposito, quel Raniero, nato, presumibilmente intorno ai primi anni del Duecento, da Bartolomeo di Rolando "Veralducii" (morto prima del 1237) e da Viscontessa. Fu, costui, il primo a portare il cognome Gatti, testimoniato a partire dal 1253, e ad aggiungere all'arme di famiglia un gatto, simbolo di destrezza e abilità, qualità
