Famiglia che trae origine da Visino, provincia di Como. Pietro (1788-1861) raggiunse alti gradi nella magistratura, ottenne il titolo di cavaliere dell'imperatore austriaco, fu ministro nel gabinetto Casati e senatore del regno. Ebbe in moglie Marianna Baruffini, che era figlia di una Gorani Panigarola. Il figlio di lui, Carlo (nato 1823), fu presidente del Tribunale di Commercio di Milano e fu padre di altro Pietro, assessore al Comune di Milano. Quest'ultimo ottenne di aggiungere il cognome dei Panigarola e con regio decreto di "motu proprio" 6 febbraio 1902 e RR. LL. PP. 13 aprile stesso anno, ebbe la concessione del titolo comitale con trasmissione primogeniale mascolina. La famiglia è iscritta nel Libro d'Oro della Nobiltà Italiana e nell'Elenco Ufficiale Italiano Nobiliare coi titoli di cavaliere dell'impero austriaco (personale), concessione 1857 e dei conti (personale) concessione 1902.
