Famille ancienne et très noble, seigneur patricien et féodal, connue sous le nom de Liguori ou (de) Liguoro, originaire de Grèce et florissante à Naples depuis le Xe IIe siècle, où elle a toujours joui d'une grande noblesse au siège de Portanova. Son géniteur se trouve en un Marco, l'un des gouverneurs de Naples en 1190. Cette maison était la dame de nombreux fiefs et décorée des titres suivants : Baron au nom ; Comte de Celso et Priego; Duc de San Nicola, par succession de la maison de Gaeta, Pozzomaruo et Canzano ; Principe di Presicce, Pollica et Montefalcone. Roberto, Florimante et Gian Crescenzo, ce dernier Capitaine Général, ont obtenu la filière militaire de Charles Ier d'Anjou. Giovanni était trésorier général sous le roi Ladislas.
