La famiglia riconosce come capostipite un Filippo, genovese vivente nella seconda metà del secolo XV, padre di Pietro, che dopo essere vissuto alla Corte di Francesco I, re di Francia, si stabilì a Parma, ove morì nel 1521 senza figli e fu sepolto nella chiesa degli Agostiniani detti Eremitani, ove riposarono i resti dei successivi membri della famiglia. Da Agostino, fratello di Pietro, si ritiene discendessero dalla dinastia di Milano oggi estinti. Stefano, altro fratello di Pietro, fu padre di Giovanni, appartenente ai priori della Congregazione di Carità di Parma, che ebbe per figlio Pietro, dottore in medicina e filosofia, al servizi di casa Farnese, accolto nel consiglio della città, morto priore del Collegio dei medici il 2 marzo 1601.
