Antica ed assai nobile famiglia toscana, con residenza in Prato ed in Firenze, detta Lionetti o Leonetti, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Nel 1665, la famiglia ottenne la cittadinanza fiorentina, nella persona di Bartolomeo di Michele. I membri di tal illustre casata ottennero la nobiltà di Prato ed il patriziato fiorentino, in persona di Giuseppe, di Giovanni Battista, e di Andrea, di Tommaso, per decreto della deputazione sopra il regolamento della nobiltà e cittadinanza in Toscana del 30 aprile 1764, in virtù del motu proprio del Granduca Cosimo III del 20 novembre 1721, col quale si dichiarava che la dignità di gonfaloniere della città di Prato poteva far prova di vera nobiltà per vestir l'abito di cavaliere pe giustizia nell'Ordine di S. Stefano. La famiglia, a partire dal secolo XVI, fu delle primarie di Prato, parecchi suoi membri coprirono la carica
