Si dice che sia venuta in Sicilia da Varazze e che il primo a portarla nell'isola, e precisamente in Palermo, sia stato un Bernardo, che vi tenne la carica di governatore della Tavola nel 1640. Un Sebastiano, figlio del detto Bernardo, con privilegio dato a 31 luglio 1658 esecutorio a 20 febbr. 1659, ottenne la concessione del titolo di Don, fu giudice della corte pretoriana di Palermo negli anni 1670-71-73-74-76-77, giudice del tribunale della gran corte nel 1677-78-79, giudice del tribunale del Concistoro 1690, nuovamente giudice della Gran Corte, avvocato fiscale del detto tribunale 1691 e nello stesso anno maestro razionale giurisperito del tribunale del R. Patrimonio, presidente del tribunale del Concistoro e di quello della Gran Corte 1693, ecc., e, con privilegio dato a 26 maggio esecutoriato a 1 luglio, venne decorato per se è suoi del titolo di duca di Belsito; un Giuseppe fu giudice delle appellazioni
