Antica e nobile famiglia pugliese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del mondo. Una avita tradizione vuole che essa abbia tratto origine dalla nobile famiglia Conte, giunta in Sicilia dalla città di Pisa nel XVI secolo e illustratasi con importanti personaggi, tra cui: Stefano, senatore di Palermo nel 1589-90, coadiutore della nobile compagnia della Carità nel 1592, 1594, 1600 e 1605, ministro della stessa nel 1608, proprietario dei feudi di Casalbianco, Ciaramita e Cavallaro; Alfonso, barone del Godrano e senatore di Palermo nel 1658-59; Francesca, baronessa di Diesi e Sparacia, della quale fu investita il 18 luglio 1689; Natale, tra i giudici pretoriani di Palermo nel 1762.
