La famiglia Conti cominciò a distinguersi ad Alatri, oltre che a Segni, verso la fine del sec. XIV e si estinse nel 1703 con Giuseppe che, nel 1662, aveva sposato in seconde nozze la nobile còrsa Innocenza Gentili, unica erede del padre Domenico Gentili, colonnello dei còrsi al servizio del papa. Giuseppe, che aveva ricoperto a Roma diverse cariche pubbliche, tra cui quella di conservatore e maestro delle strade, morì senza figli lasciando la moglie Innocenza erede dei suoi beni sparsi in Alatri, Ceccano, Collepardo e Giuliano. Illustre personaggio della famiglia fu Carlo, fratello di Giuseppe, nato verso il 1610: ecclesiastico, dottore in legge, svolse pubblica attività di diplomatico dal 1659, anno in cui fu nominato agente di affari e rappresentante in Roma presso la S. Sede dei Principi Grandi Elettori dell'Impero germanico, nonché del Gran Magistero dell'Ordine dei Cavalieri dell'Ospedale di S. Maria di Gerusalemme, altrimenti detto Ordine Teutonico.
