Alte und sehr edle bolognesische Familie, genannt Ludovisi oder Lodovisi, die aus einem Bertrando von Monterenzi stammte, Mitglied (1458-65) des Älteren Rates, der von seinem Onkel mütterlicherseits Giovanni L. ohne Erben adoptiert worden war. Bertrando nahm dann den Nachnamen und das Wappen des L. an, das er dann an seine Kinder weitergab, und begann, die Familie zu erziehen, indem er von 1458 bis 1465 unter den Ältesten von Bologna saß. Girolamo, Sohn des vorherigen, war dann erster Senator von Bologna Gonfalonier, dann 1511 vom Bentivoglio abgesetzt und für ihren Befehl erstochen.
