Famiglia assai antica e nobile, proveniente dalla città di Messina e propagatasi nel tempo in diverse regioni d'Italia. Federico, per la sua nobiltà e potenza, ebbe l'onore, fra gli altri Rettori della Città suddetta, di portar la briglia nell'entrata trionfante che fece il Re Pietro nel 1282. Suo figlio Giovanni, visse assai caro al Re Federico II, dal quale egli per rimunerazione dei suoi servigi, ricevette 50 onze l'anno, ed altrettanto ne conseguì il figlio Federico, dal Re Pietro, e il fratello Giacomo anche del medesimo Re altre 50 onze di rendita, sopra gli introiti delle marine di Girgenti, e poco dopo altre 150 onze di rendita, dal Re Federico III sopra gli introiti dell'Università della già detta Città di Messina, e della Città di Leocata in feudo, da costoro assai gentiluomini di grido ne pervennero, fra i quali i Baroni della baronia di Magalanti derivati da Federico, figlio
