Cospicua famiglia venuta a stabilirsi dalla Spagna in Lombardia nel 1535 con i fratelli don Sancio e don Antonio, figli del fu don Antonio, che erano al seguito di Carlo V. Don Sancio fu maestro di campo di Carlo V e di Filippo II, indi governatore di Asti; don Antonio, giureconsulto eminente, fu pretore di Cremona, presidente del Magistrato Ordinario e Senatore dello Stato di Milano. Da Ersilia, sua moglie, don Antonio ebbe, tra glia altri, il figlio Ernando Alfonso, che dalla sua terza consorte, Aurelia Pozzobonelli, diè i natali a Carlo Antonio. Carlo Giuseppe, nominato già cavaliere dell'Ordine della Corona di Ferro il 29 agosto 1818, avvalendosi dei diritti spettanti ai cavalieri di terza classe dell'Ordine predetto, chiese ed ottenne, con diploma dato a Vienna il 26 ottobre 1837, il titolo di cavaliere dell'Impero Austriaco col predicato di Borgogello.
