Branch of the illustrious Polish feudal family, known since the 11th century, derived from the ancient Casa Lodzia. The first authentic memories date back to a Giovanni Poninski, living in 1387. Alberto Lodzia, lord of Ponin in the Grand Duchy of Posen, was the first to assume the surname of Poninski. Antonio Lodzia Poninski, attorney general of the Crown, together with others, after the death of King Augustus II did not want to accept the election of Stanislao Lesczynscki, which took place in 1733, and supporting the candidacy of Augustus of Saxony, son of the deceased king, constituted a Diet in Kameniec under his presidency and proclaimed Augustus III king of Poland. Adam Matthias took over the Presidency of the Diet on April 19, 1773, but was accused by the party of patriots of having sold his homeland to foreigners and condemned as a traitor together with his nephew Calisto
