Si può far risalire all'undicesimo secolo l'origine di questa famiglia, di cui ora non sussiste che un solo ramo. Marco, che viveva alla metà del secolo XIV era Procuratore di S. Marco e fu uno degli elettori del doge Andrea Dandolo. Contemporaneo ad esso fu Paolo, rivestito di tale dignità e che si distinse nelle più elevate cariche militari di terra e di mare. Il massimo lustro venne a questa casa da Pietro, che ricuperò dalle armi dei Turchi le più importanti fortezze e posizioni militari della Dalmazia; ruppe i Genovesi, e sostenne la Repubblica lacerata da intestine discordie e morì nell'anno 1439. In quello stesso secolo, Luigi, Giacomo ed Antonio, tutti Procuratori di S. Marco, si distinsero importanti incarichi.
