Antica e assai nobile famiglia del Trentino, di chiara e avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione va ricercata nel nome Lorenzo, a sua volta originato dal nome latino "Laurentius", con il significato di "nativo di Laurento", centro urbano preromano di cui si è perduta traccia e che Virgilio, nell'Eneide, narra essere un luogo dove cresceva in abbondanza la sacra pianta del "laurus", l'alloro. In ogni modo la famiglia Lorenzi vede la sua culla nella città di Fornace, da donde poi alcuni suoi esponenti passarono in Trento, dedicandosi con successo al notariato, sino almeno dal secolo decimo sesto. Dai nostri archivi: Lorenzo, notaio in Trento, fiorente nel 1587; Tommaso Maria, notaio in Trento, fiorente nel 1616; Niccolò, notaio in Trento, fiorente nel 1645; Agostino, notaio in Trento, fiorente nel 1689. Nel 1875, un cospicuo ramo dei Lorenzi da Fornace si è trasferito
