Puissante chevalerie, mentionnée dès 1209 répandue en Auvergne et Bourbonnais et alliée principalement aux de Tourzel d'Alègre, aux de Langeác et aux de Montboissier, etc.. Nombreuses illustrations dans les armes et le sacerdoce. On rencontre sous ce nom: un ministre de Charles VII, évêque de St-Flour (1419-1451); des sénéchaux et lieutenants-généraux d'Auvergne (1427-1565). Deux abbesses du noble chapitre de Blesle: Marie et Isabelle de Beauvoir (1427-1448), appartiennent à cette maison. Le blason de cette famille est sculpté avec celui des d'Alègre sur un puits du XVIème siècle, dans la cour du chêteau de Viverols; - Archives du chêteau du Thiolent-Armorial inss. de 1470; - Boullet: Nobiliaire d'Auvergne, VII, P- 408; - A. Tardieu: Histoire des villes d'Auzances et de Crocq, p. 156; et Histoire de la ville et du canton de St-Gervais. Titre nobiliaire de cette famille: Marquis de Bellenave, Seigneur et Barons de Pierrebrune, de Chavanon.
