Johann Lûkes 1294 Straßburg Ratsherr; Lucas 1409 Würzburg Oppidanus; Lukas 1458 Waldmünchen Zinsamnn. Ist nach dem Namen des Evangelisten Lukas (aus Lucanos gleich Bewohner der unteritalienischen Landschaft Lucania). Der Name setzt sich in Deutschland verhältnismäßig spät fest und erlangt nie die Geltung der Namen der anderen Evangelisten. Bahn gebrochen haben ihm die Maler, Bildschnitzer, Formschneider, die den Evangelisten Lukas (der Maler gewesen sein soll) als Patron verehrten. Seit dem ausgehenden 13. Jahrhundert, ab Karl IV. (1346-1378), haben die Kaiser Wappen verliehen, ohne die Begünstigten in den Adelsstand zu erheben. Im 15. Jahrhundert haben sie den Pfalzgrafen mit der Wappenvergabe betraut, der seitdem auch Bürgerfamilien Wappen gewährte.
