Vuolsi dal Villabianca che tale antica e nobilissima famiglia prendesse origine da un Adinolfo P. figlio di una sorella di Desiderio re dei Longobardi, signore d'un castello detto Tre Palli. I suoi discendenti governarono la repubblica di Lucca, ed un Andrea P. essendo passato in Sicilia denominossi L.-P. in memoria della sua patria. Fu egli dunque in ceppo di questa famiglia in Sicilia, ove si diffuse, e specialmente in Sciacca e Naro, e da qui in Palermo. Molto accetto al conte Ruggiero, il predetto Andrea ricevè in compenso di suoi militari servigi non pochi feudi e territorii 1067. Vanta ella soggetti famosissimi e per dignità e per ricchezze: un Luigi Antonio rettore di Sciacca sotto la regina Margherita, e da Federico II imperatore creato gran prefetto del regno 1239; un Nicolò di lui figlio giustiziere del val di Mazara ed altri che furono capitani di guerra di Licata, Girgenti,
