Originaria di Lucca e proveniente da Adinolfo signore del castello di Tre Palli, tal illustre famiglia, fu trapiantata in Sicilia nel 1067 da Andrea L. Palli, per contese avute con la famiglia Ubaldi. Ebbe nobiltà in Palermo in Sciacca, in Naro, in Noto e in Messina, e si divise in vari rami; e fu signora di molti feudi e baronie, di due contee, di sei marchesati, di sei ducati e di tre principati. oltre un cardinale di S. R. Chiesa, Ubaldo nel 1134, e due Vescovi, vanta una serie di uomini illustri tra i quali Luigi Antonio gran prefetto di Sicilia per l'Imperatore Federico Svevo; Salvatore e Giacomo senatori di Palermo; Nicolò giustiziere di villa di Mazzara nel 1300; Domenico tenente generale negli eserciti di Spagna; Giuseppe, valoroso militare e uno dei primi generali dell'esercito dell'imperatore di Austria; Alessandro maresciallo di campo dell'esercito delle Due Sicilie.
