Antico ed assai nobile casato italiano, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in tutto il mondo. Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato il capostipite andrebbe individuato in quel Sanctus Lucidus, nato in Aquara (SA) nel lontano anno 960. Da lui dunque i Lucidi o Lucido. In ogni modo, la famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano col titolo di Nobile di Corneto (mf.), attuale Tarquinia, nella regione Lazio, in persona dei discendenti da Pietro (1762). Un altro ramo della famiglia, con la medesima arma dei nobili di Corneto, era invece residente in Subiaco, da dove giunse da Benevento anteriormente al XV secolo, e, secondo il Bollettino Ufficiale della Consulta Araldica, ebbe fregio del titolo comitale. Tal ramo, in cui fiorirono soprattutto militari, visse infatti "more nobilium" fino al 1837, anno in cui, a seguito del decreto di papa Gregorio XVI, i fratelli Pietro, Benedetto e mons. Lorenzo,
