Die Familie Lugnani oder auch Capanaci genannt, zog 792 von Aquileia nach Venedig, wo sie in diesen Adel eingeschrieben wurden. Ein Ser Nicolò war einer der Wähler des Dogen Giacomo Tiepolo (1229-1249). Es wird angenommen, dass dieser Zweig 1331 ausgestorben ist, als Lupin Provveditor all'Armamento war. Später erscheinen die Familienmitglieder oder genannt L. und Lugnano in Venedig, die in den Milizen eingetragen sind, und werden in den Kommissaren der Staatsanwälte von S. Marco erwähnt. Dann werden sie unter den verschiedenen Familien von Piran, von Isola (Istrien) gefunden, wo ein Lugnani Pfarrer war.
