Assai antico casato siciliano, di chiara e provata nobiltà, il quale, al dir di alcuni autori, sarebbe un ramo dell'altrettanto illustre famiglia La Lomia. In ogni modo, la famiglia Lumia, la quale ebbe dimora principale in Palermo e che risulta iscritta nel Libro d'Oro della Nobiltà Italiana e nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano, anno 1922, con il titolo di barone della Grazia di Vallebella, nel corso dei secoli, sempre è riuscita a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui ha dato i natali. Tra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, ricordiamo: un Tommaso, che fu giudice pretoriano di Palermo, negli anni 1612-13, 1620-21, 1629-30, 1632-33; un Giuseppe, il quale tenne la stessa carica negli anni 1621-22, 1626-27, 1634-35, 1645-46 e che fu giudice della Gran Corte del Regno, negli anni 1647-48-49; un Carlo, che fu giudice della Gran Corte dal 1665 al 1669 e che, con privilegio dato a
