I Lupi trassero origine da S. Giovan Bianco e fortuna dal valore di Detesalvo, generale delle fanterie venete, nel secolo XV, illustrato nel Bollettino della Civica Biblioteca di Bergamo. Entrano nel Consiglio di Bergamo con Pietro nel 1495 e vi recano il titolo di conte con Orazio nel 1683. Nel 1797 vi erano Detesalvo ed il conte Vittorio, e Detesalvo ancora nel 1800. Sono iscritti come nobili lombardi e conti palatini negli elenchi ufficiali del 1815-28, del 1840 e del 1895. Si distinsero nelle magistrature, nelle armi e nelle scienze col can. Mario autore del Codice Diplomatico della Chiesa di Bergamo. Vestirono l'abito di Malta nel 1599 con Cesare. Il palazzo della famiglia è in via Pignolo. Detesalvo ottenne dalla Repubblica Veneta molti beni confiscati ai ribelli e tra questi il castello di Cenate già dei Suardi. Sono iscritti nell'Elenco Ufficiale coi titoli di Conte Palatino (m.), Conte (m.), Nobile
