La famiglia è iscritta nel Witaker ed ha vaste diramazioni e possessioni in Inghilterra ed in Austria. Il capo è il generale sir Guglielmo, cavaliere ereditario, barone, gran croce dell'ordine del Regno. Ha fatte le campagne di guerra del sud Africa nel 1899-900, fu membro del governo centrale di Malta e del consiglio privato del governo di Madras nonchè direttore generale delle forze territoriali. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi.
