Secondo quanto riporta lo Zagata, il 26 luglio 1239 Costantino Macari, essendo di parte guelfa, venne esiliato da Verona; tuttavia gli stessi guelfi, nel 1393, incendiarono la casa di Giovanni Francesco, dei Macari di Bergamo, dove in seguito esercitarono il notariato alcuni Macario o Macari, cognome derivato da quello dei Macari e che ricorda i SS. Macario della chiesa ortodossa. E'comune opinione, tra i genealogisti, infatti, che i Macari, Macario, Maccari, Maccario e Macario, siano tutti rami derivati da un unico ceppo. Ma per quello che riguarda più specialmente le vicende dei Macari nel Veneto, le notizie vengono meno nei secoli XV e XVI. Solo in quello successivo si apprende che il 10 giugno 1627 un Angelo, Contestabile alla Porta di Porto della fortezza di Legnago, era già morto in quell'epoca, forse nell'adempiere il suo dovere con altri compagni. Nel 1633 un Claudio era cittadino di Trento e nel 1655
