La famiglia Maccaione, e la medesma che Maccagnone o Maccarone, però l'una venne da Pisa in Sicilia, e l'altra di Milano. Però la M. di Pisa gode in quella Repubblica molte volte gl'uffici di Priore, e d'Anziano. Il primo che di lei venne in Sicilia col Vescovo di Mazzara Goffredo Rincione Pisano nel 1300 fu Angofredo M. suo stretto parente, il quale si casò nella Città di Mazzara, e ivi ricco, e potente divenne, e servì in molte occasioni al Rè Federico II. Procreò egli a Francesco, e Alberto detto pur Betto i quali vissero nella loro patri nobilmente come si vede nelle loro antiche Cappelle fondate nella Chiesa Cathedrale di Mazzara, nel 1574. Da Francesco, e Costanza sua moglie ne nacque Giacomo, che si casò con Mansueta formosa Damma principale di quella Città, e per i gravi incontri c'hebbe con Nicolò Peralta all'hora Signor di Mazzara, con suo
