Famiglia Veneta, oriunda dalla Spagna, di antica e nobile tradizione, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni del nord d'Italia. Originaria di Vizcaya, i riferimenti più antichi sono di un Pedro González Macente che alla fine del XVI secolo sposò con una figlia di Pedro I Roy de Lezama e di doña Elvira de Muñatones. Un Pedro II Gonzàles Macente Muñatones passò in Venezia agli inizi del XVII secolo al seguito del marchese Alfonso de la Cueva-Benavides y Mendoza-Carrillo. Nel 1618, dopo i fatti della congiura di Venezia, il marchese fu rimpatriato ed il Macente si allontanò da Venezia insediandosi in un'altra città veneta, probabilmente Treviso o Padova. Successivamente i nomi dei Macente sono ricordati prevalentemente in atti notarili e contratti di vendita di terre e case, dai quale appare che erano di condizione agiata.
