La ilustre familia Maggi se cuenta entre las familias más nobles, que gobernaron el destino de Brescia en los siglos XIII y XIV. Originalmente se llamó Madius, luego Maddi y finalmente Maggi. Políticamente del lado de Guelph, los miembros de esta familia fueron expulsados varias veces y otros tantos reaparecieron como libertadores según la alternancia de los acontecimientos políticos.
