L'illustre famille Maggi compte parmi les familles les plus nobles qui ont gouverné le destin de Brescia aux XIIIe et XIVe siècles. Il s'appelait à l'origine Madius, puis Maddi et enfin Maggi. Politiquement du côté de Guelph, les membres de cette famille ont été expulsés à plusieurs reprises et autant sont réapparus en libérateurs au gré des événements politiques alternés. Pour cette raison, ils se sont répandus dans toute la Lombardie, l'Émilie, la Ligurie, la Toscane et la Suisse. La branche de Crémone donna à la ville cinquante-sept décurions. De plus, avec un diplôme daté du 25 juin 1648, Nicolò Maggi fut investi du titre de marquis du fief de Pescarolo, dans la région de Crémone, par le roi d'Espagne Philippe IV.
