The illustrious Maggi family is counted among the noblest families, who ruled the fate of Brescia in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It was originally called Madius, later Maddi, and finally Maggi. Politically on the Guelph side, the members of this family were expelled several times and as many reappeared as liberators according to the alternating political events. For this reason they spread throughout Lombardy, Emilia, Liguria, Tuscany and Switzerland. The branch of Cremona gave the city fifty-seven decurions. Furthermore, with a diploma dated June 25, 1648, Nicolò Maggi was invested with the title of marquis of the fief of Pescarolo, in the Cremona area, by the king of Spain Philip IV. Other branches also flourished nobly in Monza, Pavia, Vigevano, Tortona, Sale, Piacenza, Ferrara, Bologna, Genoa, Livorno, Florence, Novara, Verona, Como, Lugano, Mendrisio, Castel San Pietro (Canton Ticino), Zurich (Canton of Zurich), Liestal (Canton of Basilea Campagna) and Monthey
