This ancient and noble family is originally from the city of Tramonti, near Amalfi called Maio, Maggio or Di Maggio. It has been a feudal lord since the time of the Swabian kings, and at that time it was divided into several branches which passed through the cities of Brescia, Como, Cremona, Milan and Venice. This family enjoyed nobility in the city of Naples at the seat of Montagna, Tramonti, Capua, Benevento 1671, Foggia, Lucera, Andria, Catanzaro, Cosenza, Castelvetere, Montescaglioso and Massalubrense, and in Sicily. He dressed in the dress of Malta in 1564. The Maggio family was also ascribed to the Golden Book, as belonging to the Mountain Seat, in the two branches of the Dukes of San Pietro and of the Marquis Maggio Durazzo.
