Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lombarda, oriunda però da Padova, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Circa nell'anno 1150, la famiglia Maghini passò a risiedere a Gravedona perché, come parte guelfa, fu esiliata dai Ghibellini di Padova. Non trovando alcun sicuro ricovero in Italia passò primieramente in Germania da donde poi andò in Milano ma cacciata anche da lì andò in Gravedona, dove molti Guelfi si fermarono e furono ben accolti. Da allora la casata fu una delle più fiorenti della Pieve. Alfonso fu Consigliere ed Ingegnere di Gian Giacomo Medici e Ingegnere maggiore per il Castello di Milano; altro Alfonso fu procuratore generale a Milano del "Gran Cardinale Gallio Duca d'Alvito" e, nel 1607, fu nominato, dal conte Tolomeo, Fiscale delle Tre Pievi; Alessandro fu Sindaco e Procuratore Fiscale delle Tre Pievi di Como.
