Fu antica feudataria, la famiglia M. nella città di Messina. Gio. M.fù Barone del Casale d'Asterio, ed i Crimasta che gli successe Pietro suo figlio, al quale Giovanni che l'hebbe confirmati del Rè Federico terzo nel 1360. A costui seguì suo figlio Manfredo, che fù anche Barone del Casale di Graniti. Francesco altro figlio di Giovanni primo, acquistò il Casale di Graniti nel tenitorio di Francaviglia, che gli seguì suo figlio Nicolò, il quale poscia lo vendè al Conte Henrico Rosso nel 1370; che per haverse distaccato della real ubedienza, l'hebbe la Contessa Beatrice Rosso, e Spadafora moglie del Conte Thomaso, che pur la concesse à Nicolò Castagna, nel 1401; però comparendo Giacomo de Spinis marito di Costanza figlia di Manfredo M., e l'ottenne. Stefano M., si casò con la figlia di Francesco Minutelli di Nicosia, Barone della Montagna, che l'haveva havuto nel 1493, e procreò Antonio, Francesco, e Gio.
